Joe Biden’s team regroups

Ron Klain leaves as chief of staff, enters Jeff Zients. The FBI finds secret files in Joe Biden’s house again.

US presidents’ chiefs of staff generally don’t have long shelf lives, they’ve managed an average of 15 months since 1969. And Ron Klain had also long been waiting for a window of departure. Nothing came of a planned exit after last November’s midterm elections: Democrats performed better than expected, so the expected exodus of political personnel did not materialize.

It ended up being two years in the White House for Klain. Longtime associate of President Joe Biden introduced former Bidens Covid-19 coordinator Jeff Zients to the role in recent weeks. Klain will step down after the annual State of the Union address on February 7.
