Good Times actor John Amos has slammed his daughter’s bizarre attempt to claim he was “fighting for his life” after suffering “elder abuse”.
Amos, 83, told TMZ a fundraiser allegedly started by his daughter Shannon was based on a lie and he was never the victim of abuse.
The fundraiser, which had a goal of $500,000, claimed the actor, nicknamed “America’s Father,” was the victim of a “carer” who robbed him and “everything valuable” from his home “ have withdrawn.
But Amos was quick to deny the allegations, saying he had no idea why his daughter started the fundraiser, the source said.
John Amos (right) has contradicted claims that he was targeted by an elderly abuser as part of a fundraiser allegedly being run by his daughter Shannon (left) following his hospitalization in Memphis last month.
His daughter, Shannon Amos, said his ordeal began last month when she received a troubling phone call from her father telling her he was at a Memphis hospital.
However, while the fundraiser claims he was “fighting for his life in intensive care,” Amos’ rep told the outlet that the actor “has been 100 percent better lately.”
The 83-year-old was taken to hospital because his lower body was filling up with fluid up to his abdomen, leading to heart problems. The rep reportedly said doctors successfully emptied it and he is on the mend.
At the fundraiser, which was said to be helping him with his legal fees and medical expenses, it was claimed that he was only able to call his daughter briefly from the hospital bed before “his pain became too unbearable”.
Shannon did not provide any details about the abuse in her appeal, except to point out that the 83-year-old’s home was “raped and robbed of anything of value.”
She added that the family is working with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations and local police to “get justice.”
“The cruelty that was inflicted on my father makes me wonder what kind of person could commit such acts,” added Shannon. “Nevertheless, we hold on to the hope that justice will prevail.”
“We are deeply saddened that John was a victim of elder abuse, neglect and fiduciary abuse and is believed to have been committed by a trusted caregiver.”
