John Lennon’s voice has been retrieved by AI and a new Beatles song will be released understand

In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Today program about the release of his new book Eyes of the Storm this Tuesday morning 13. Paul McCartney said they managed to get the vote John Lennon by means of Artificial intelligenceand with it also the coming of a new recording of the beatles would be planned for later this year. Paul hasn’t confirmed any dates or revealed which song it is.

“It’s all kind of scary, but it’s also exciting because it’s the future,” McCartney said of the use of AI during a conversation with the show’s host Martha Kearney.

However, according to the artist, the producers used an old recording of John Lennon to extract his voice. “It was a demo of John that we’ve been working on and just finished. Let’s start this year. With that AI, we were able to take John’s voice and make it pure. Then we could mix the recording as usual,” he explained.

The Beatles and artificial intelligence

The development of artificial intelligence and its use to recover historical documents in various formats recently enabled director Peter Jackson to recover footage recorded by Michael LindsayHogg for the 1969 documentary Let It Be. This was used in his film Get Back, available on Disney+, which reveals secrets that have been hidden for over 50 years.

A technique called “unmixing” was used. Unlike “mixing,” which attempts to fit the various sonic elements of a recording into a single track as best as possible, demixing attempts to break down the various components of a recording. “It’s like taking a fruit smoothie and isolating the banana, the apple, and the papaya,” explained Geraldo Ramos, founder of Moises, a startup specializing in algorithms of this type, in an interview with Estao in 2022.
