John Oates shares a message calling for a “more compassionate and supportive world” after former bandmate Daryl Hall got a restraining order against him

John Oates exudes good spirits despite his former Hall & Oates bandmate Daryl Hall recently taking legal action against him.

The 75-year-old guitarist, singer and songwriter shared a peaceful message to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday, a day before Thanksgiving.

In his caption, he called for a “more compassionate and supportive world,” although it’s unclear whether he was indirectly responding to Hall obtaining a restraining order against him.

The day after Oates’ social media post, TMZ revealed that Hall had filed for the restraining order to prevent Oates from performing certain songs.

Representing the most commercially successful duo in music history, the two have numerous hits and other popular tunes to their credit, some written together but many written exclusively by Hall or Oates.

In his new post, Hall swapped his famous mustache for a salty goatee and wore a purple shirt with oval polka dots over a white undershirt.

He also wore mesmerizing square sunglasses and a suede floppy hat.

“In this time of shared reflection and contact with our loved ones, let us not forget those who are facing challenges around the world,” he began his contribution.

“As we come together, consider supporting those in need – whether through local charities or international humanitarian initiatives,” he continued. “May our collective efforts contribute to a more compassionate and supportive world.” —JO’

Oates’ post appeared the day after Hall reportedly filed a restraining order against him after he and his trust filed a lawsuit against Oates and his trust.

The file on the lawsuit was sealed by a judge, but Oates is reportedly accused of breach of contract.

Later reports indicated that the lawsuit related to both who gets to perform the duo’s top songs and issues of royalty payments.

The duo had their greatest success in the 1980s with hits like “You Make My Dreams” and the Billboard Hot 100 hit “Maneater,” but the group’s roots go back to the late 1960s.

It wasn’t until 1972 that they released their debut album with the humorous title Whole Oats.

Their first LPs were largely ignored by audiences and critics, but received renewed attention and positive reappraisals after Hall & Oates began penning hit singles in the mid-’70s, including the classic Rich Girl (1976).

From then on, the duo recorded increasing sales and released a number of number one hits into the 80s.

However, their commercial success began to wane towards the end of the decade and continued to decline throughout the 1990s.

The duo have gone on hiatus several times in recent years but have never officially broken up, although they continue to battle in court over music.

Their last studio album was 2006’s Home For The Holidays.
