The first reviews of the John Wick prequel “The Continental: From the World of John Wick” have just been published and they aren’t exactly rosy. Are you a fan of the franchise and can’t wait for the threepart prequel to begin? Then you can now press play. The first episode was available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on September 22nd.
Is the threeepisode series, set in the 1970s and telling of the origins of the murderous hotel of the same name, worth it in the end? Before you can convince yourself, the first reviews will at least make you reconsider your expectations of the format…
The Continental doesn’t do the films justice
Most reviews are mixed or negative, as a quick look at X (formerly Twitter) shows. Variety’s Alison Herman, for example, points out that the producers apparently didn’t understand what audiences expected from a John Wick without John Wick. She’s now pinning all her hopes on Ballerina and believes this spinoff will do it better. However, for them The Continental was “frustrating and disappointing”:
