Johnny Depp’s friend Isaac Baruch cries on the witness stand during Amber Heard’s defamation trial
Johnny Depp’s multi-million dollar defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard continues in Virginia. The court has heard from the actor’s sister Christi Dembrowski, who also served part-time as his business manager, and his artist friend and neighbor Isaac Baruch, who made a particularly colorful and emotional statement.
Depp claims a 2018 Washington Post article by Heard — in which she discussed domestic violence against women — implied that Depp, her ex-husband, was an abuser.
Although the 35-year-old did not name the actor, lawyers for Depp say Heard’s allegations have made it difficult for the 58-year-old to land roles he previously had.
Depp is known for starring in films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Sweeney Todd and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Heard has appeared in titles such as Aquaman and Drive Angry.
He is seeking $50 million (£38.2 million) in damages during the trial in Fairfax County Circuit Court. Heard has since filed a defamation counterclaim against Depp, whom she divorced in 2017, for harassment.
Depp previously lost a defamation case in the UK against British newspaper The Sun over the claims in Heard’s 2018 article.

Johnny Depp once called Amber Heard a “c**t” and referred to her “rotting corpse” in a text to a friend, a US court heard Wednesday (April 13).
The message was read as part of the defamation case against Depp and Heard in Fairfax, Virginia.
Witnesses for the day included Depp’s longtime friend Isaac Baruch, who was asked by Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft: “Remember Mr. Depp ever told you he was hoping Amber Heard’s decomposing body was found in the frigging trunk of an A Honda Civic?”
Baruch pointed to a monitor showing the message and said, “Yeah. Well, I’m saying yes – I see it here, so obviously yes was said. It was written.”

A friend of Johnny Depp testified on the third day of the defamation trial against Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Isaac Baruch was ordered to testify in Fairfax, Virginia on Wednesday (April 13). He took the stand after cross-examination of Mr Depp’s sister, Christi Dembrowski, was completed.
Mr Baruch said he first met Mr Depp when they were both teenagers in Florida playing in bands. He testified for a couple of hours and gave a colorful testimony that sometimes drew smiles and laughter from others in the courthouse – including Mr Depp and Ms Heard herself.
