His career and reputation were on the brink, but by the time a US jury considered the lurid domestic violence allegations surrounding Johnny Depp, the star was already celebrating, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.
On Tuesday night, hours before the vicious libel battle with ex-wife Amber Heard reached a dramatic finale, the Hollywood A-lister threw a lavish party in London that had all the hallmarks of a victory celebration.
Revelers at exclusive members’ club Laylow in trendy Notting Hill – including Depp’s star witness, supermodel Kate Moss – racked up a bill estimated at around £250,000 while drinking and dancing to “really hard techno” until 5am. But the bill is dwarfed by the $15million (£12million) awarded to 58-year-old Depp in damages a few hours later when the Virginia court ruled in his favour.

“It was a real celebration and it went on and on,” a source said. “At the time, Johnny didn’t even know he’d won the case.
“A lot of money has been spent. The wine, cocktails and venue rental didn’t come cheap, but it was the end of the fight with Amber and he clearly wanted to celebrate the moment in style. Johnny was a little later, but it was a proper old-school showbiz party.
Laylow – who boasts a wine list that includes a £595 Tuscan red and £429 Californian Cabernet Sauvignon – is no stranger to celebrity parties, with David Beckham, Stormzy, Mick Jagger, Poppy Delevingne and Rita Ora all there threw all the parties. Depp emerged on Tuesday night after performing with rock star Jeff Beck at the Royal Albert Hall, where Ms Moss was watching.
The model, who had a four-year relationship with Depp in the 1990s, had emerged as a key witness in the defamation trial, refuting Ms Heard’s claims that she was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of Depp, testifying that he “never pushed me, kicked or thrown down a flight of stairs”.

It supported Depp’s lawsuit against Ms Heard over an article she wrote in which she described herself as a “public figure who depicts domestic violence”.
Depp was back on stage alongside Beck in Glasgow on Friday night, performing hits like Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On? and the paperback author of The Beatles. During the performance at the Royal Concert Hall, fans shouted: “Innocent! Innocent!’
A Hollywood insider suggested it’s “not inconceivable” that Depp could now return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, possibly in a cameo role. Meanwhile, Ms. Heard, 36, faces financial ruin.
