1692646772 Johnny Depp v Amber Heard 5 Things We Learned From

Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard: Who is telling the truth?

“Everyone talks… but no one knows anything.”

That’s the phrase that came to mind after watching the fascinating documentary series on Netflix about the most publicized trial in recent years, pitting Johnny Depp against his ex, actress Amber Heard.

Released on August 16, this three-episode series is already one of the most watched on the platform.

At the time of the trial, everyone was judging without knowing it. And now everyone has an opinion about this series … even if nobody knows exactly what happened in the intimacy of the rich and famous couple.

THE SOCIAL MEDIA CIRCUS

You remember that trial: The actor sued his ex for defamation because Amber Heard wrote a statement in the Washington Post saying she was a victim of domestic violence.

“She’s a liar!” some cried. “He’s violent and dangerous!” cried the others. “This is proof that patriarchy protects the powerful!” some claimed. “It’s proof that women are violent and mean too!” cried the others.

The director of the Netflix miniseries focused on all this “noise” surrounding the trial, the youtubers, tiktokers and commenters and all the gentlemen and ladies who have been making the “trial” of Johnny and Amber on social media.

Emma Cooper said in an interview with Variety, “Actually, my intention was always for the film to be about the conversations surrounding the trial. I wanted to break away from the “he says/she says” inherent in the process and just talk about us and how we communicate and how we view events that have very little to do with us.”

And you know what? Its scary.

The intensity of the comments circulating on social media during this process is disturbing. The quickness of judgment of people who said “I know” when they knew nothing is breathtaking!

If this series proves one thing, it’s that the people’s court is a thousand times worse than the real court.

If you watch the miniseries, you’ll see that the jury wasn’t seized.

Amber Heard’s attorney is confident the jury scoured social media and were impressed. Johnny Depp’s lawyers are convinced of the opposite: The members of the jury were not influenced because they were sworn in and were reminded daily by the judge not to read or listen to news about the trial.

We’ll never know. But one thing is certain: it is not for Mr and Mrs Tartempion to judge in their living room, but for the members of the jury based on the evidence. This is how the system works in the rule of law.

We loved each other so much

The saddest thing about this documentary series is hearing Depp and Heard share how they fell madly in love, the passion that kept them together for years.

How sad to see how people who loved each other so much end up hating each other so much and tear themselves apart in front of millions of people!
