Director Todd Phillips revealed the first look at Lady Gaga as a character for the movie Joker: Folie à deux.
“Happy Valentines Day,” Phillips captioned the picture on Instagram.
In the photo, Gaga can be seen in a scene with Joaquin Phoenix “The Joker”. Gaga reportedly plays Harley Quinn in the sequel, which is part of the DC Elseworlds franchise.
The Joker sequel, directed by Phillips, is set to premiere on October 4, 2024. The film’s cast includes Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson and Zazie Beetz.
Margot Robbie, who has portrayed the villain Harley Quinn in films like ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Birds of Prey,’ brought Gaga good cheer to the iconic role.
“It makes me so happy because I said from the start, all I want is Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, like Macbeth or Batman are always passed from great actor to great actor,” Robbie told MTV News in October 2022.
Robbie added, “It’s a great honor to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors can play,” she added. “I think she’s going to do something incredible with it.”
Joker: Folie à deux is not part of the DC Universe that James Gunn and Peter Safran are constructing and lives in its own timeline. Safran said this film will be “uniquely referred to as DC Elseworlds, just like the comics.”
The 2019 film Joker was a box office success, grossing over $1 billion at the global box office. Phoenix received an Oscar for his portrayal of DC villain Arthur Fleck.
