2019 joker Deviating from the comics, it delivered a unique, original take on the Clown Prince of Crime and his origin story.
That turned out to be far from bad, of course, and while Todd Phillips’ film lacked fidelity to the source material, it more than made up for it with a compelling, often haunting, approach to Arthur Fleck’s villainous transformation.
This unique take on the classic comic book villain continues in Joker: Folie a Deux, and we now have photos and footage from the Los Angeles set. In the following tweets, Joaquin Phoenix can be seen running in a panic around Gotham City, seemingly being pursued by mimic Jokers.
One looks exactly like Fleck in the final act of the first film, and we can’t help but wonder if it’s all in the villain’s mind. Finally, he’s expected to remain within the confines of Arkham Asylum in this follow-up (where he meets fellow patient Harley Quinn), although it would definitely be interesting to see what happens to Gotham if they escape!
In 2019, Joker became the first R-rated blockbuster to gross over $1 billion at the global box office.
For now, it’s the only film based on a DC Comics character currently heading our way in 2024, and 2025 is when DC Studios will launch the new DCU in earnest Superman: Legacy.
Joker: Folie à Deux is slated to hit theaters on October 4, 2024, exactly five years after Joker debuted.
