Marvel star Jonathan Majors was joined in court by his girlfriend Meagan Good as his long-awaited assault trial began in New York City.

Mr. Majors is accused of attacking his former girlfriend in a car in the city on March 25 as they drove to his apartment. He pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.

The girlfriend accuses him of hitting her, throwing her into the car after she got out, twisting her arm and grabbing her hand and injuring her. According to prosecutors, she was treated at a hospital for minor injuries to her head and neck, including a cut to her ear.

His lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, called the alleged victim a “liar,” and in June Mr. Majors filed a complaint against her, accusing her of assaulting him and accusing him of texting another woman.

If found guilty, Mr. Majors could face up to a year in prison.

Jury selection begins Thursday at 10 a.m. EST, with the jury being selected from 40 people sworn on Wednesday.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys are prohibited from using “victim.”

The judge in the case has banned prosecutors and defense attorneys from referring to either party as a “victim” during jury selection, which is known as “voir dire” in the U.S. legal system.

“No one is the victim of voir dire,” the judge announced during Wednesday’s hearing. Selection of a jury from a pool of 40 begins at 10 a.m. Thursday.

40 potential jurors brought to trial

A group of 40 potential jurors were brought into court and sworn in by the judge, who told them Mr. Majors’ name and instructed them not to research the case or watch news coverage of it.

“You can’t use Google, FaceTime or Twitter — which I assume is called X now,” he said, Deadline reported.

“You can’t do an internet search, you can’t do a social media search, absolutely anything you can think of that I haven’t mentioned…you can’t.”

The judge will clear the courtroom for legal arguments

The judge presiding over the case plans to clear the public courtroom of spectators later this afternoon so that lawyers can argue about the admission of a piece of evidence that is currently under seal.

Judge Michael Gaffey will allow Mr Majors’ lawyers to argue that the information, which has been described as “likely prejudicial and inflammatory”, is excluded from the case.
