Josh Brolin Reveals He Almost Played Batman In Zack Snyder’s DC Movies Before The Role Got Ben Affleck: ‘It Was His Choice, It Wasn’t My Choice’
Thanos and Batman are two very different comic book characters, but Josh Brolin played almost both of them.
The 54-year-old actor revealed in an interview with MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that he almost played Batman in Zack Snyder’s DC films.
Snyder eventually decided to skip the No Country For Old Men star, casting the role to Ben Affleck instead.

“That was interesting to me,” Brolin said. “It was his decision, it wasn’t my decision.”
He continued: “It would have been the older, the scratchier, as I didn’t have a better word. Honestly, that would have been a fun deal. And maybe I will when I’m 80.’
In hindsight, Brolin might have dodged a bullet by losing the role because Affleck’s tenure as Bruce Wayne was fraught with contention.

As with many people who worked on the film Justice League, the Argo star admitted in an EW interview earlier this year that it was a difficult experience for him.
“I had a really deep experience in the Justice League for a lot of different reasons,” he told close friend Matt Damon in January. “Don’t blame anyone, a lot of things happened. But actually I wasn’t happy. I didn’t like being there. I didn’t find it interesting. And then some really shitty things happened, terrible things. But that’s when I thought I won’t do this anymore.
Among the many issues faced by the cast and crew was the loss of Snyder’s daughter, who committed suicide during the film’s post-production.
Snyder left the film to be with his family and mourn, and Warner Bros. called in Joss Whedon to extensively remake the film.

Ray Fisher, who played Victor Stone, aka Cyborg, in the film has since accused Whedon of “rude, abusive, unprofessional and totally unacceptable” behavior in the film, and Gal Gadot has claimed he threatened her career.
Whedon has never commented on the couple’s allegations.
Rather than appearing as Batman, Brolin got his comic book set in the Marvel Universe. He played the big bad Thanos in a number of Marvel films including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
He also played a major role as Cable in Deadpool 2 alongside Ryan Reynolds.
