In a new interview with People, Bassett opened up about what led to his hospitalization, hinting that the stress from the overall “driver’s license” response was contributing to his condition.

Joshua says he felt seriously ill in the week leading up to his hospitalization as a result of the stress he was feeling from chattering about his “driver’s license” online.

“I slept 16 to 20 hours a day,” he said after noting he was “getting worse every day.” “I couldn’t even stand up for more than 30 seconds.”

Almost a week after Driver’s License fell, Bassett’s single “Lie Lie Lie” was released – and his condition worsened noticeably.

“I felt my heart literally give out,” he recalled. “I thought, ‘This isn’t just fear. This is bad.'”

“The doctors said, ‘If you hadn’t come in within 12 hours, you would have died in your apartment,'” he said. “It’s crazy that I was so close to taking another nap.”

Joshua ended up spending nine days in the hospital, but his problems didn’t stop when he left.

“I was even more depressed and stressed,” he says. “I had a panic attack every day.”

But it sounds like it’s been a better place since then too. “In this past year, many of my greatest fears have come true,” he says. “But I’ve found that I’ll always be fine, if not better.”
