“I chose to live, I was more afraid of not waking up than waking up without a leg,” American actor of Mexican origin Juan Pablo Medina, after several months of speculation about his health and few appearances on social media, told a national media company networks. “I’m going to have a normal life and that’s it,” he said.
“My first reaction was like anger,” confessed the 44-year-old actor in an interview with GQ magazine, who required emergency hospitalization on July 15, 2021 after suffering a silent heart attack that later forced him to amputation of his right leg.
“I want to enjoy what I gained, what lived, what is more important than what I lost.” explained Medina, who can be seen very smiling on the cover of the April issue while modeling his prosthesis in different scenarios, and who also suspected that it is “the best prosthesis there is, it’s mechatronics”.
Throughout the interview, the actor shares what he’s experienced from the moment he felt bad on July 15th, what it was like struggling with the diagnosis, what his life looks like today and even what his aspirations and are plans for the future.
He highlighted the support of his family, starting with his father, who is a doctor and “did everything” to save his limb, but most importantly his life; his girlfriend, the actress Paulina Dávila, who was in charge of placating him and making him realize that his health comes first, as well as external people who had had the same experience and with whom he had the opportunity to live .
“Something that has helped me a lot is how I want to see myself, what I want to do, I’m very excited to work but I want to be in the moment where my body and my head are telling me that I am ready for it. I want to master prosthetics and it takes time and a lot of effort and work because after being able to perform I am very grateful.”
