Julia Roberts breaks her silence on the “devastating” death of Matthew Perry

(CNN) –– Julia Roberts spoke about her ex-boyfriend Matthew Perry, the late star of “Friends,” in an interview.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actress reflected on the loss of Perry, who died in October at age 54.

“The sudden death of someone so young is devastating,” Roberts said. “I think, you know, it helps all of us appreciate what we have and move forward positively as best we can,” he added.

Roberts and Perry dated for about three months in the 1990s when the actress guest-starred on “Friends.” Perry wrote about her brief romance with Roberts in her autobiography, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.

“I sent her three dozen red roses and the card said, ‘The only thing more exciting than the prospect of you being on the show is that I finally have an excuse to send you flowers,'” shared her in her book.

Roberts, Perry wrote, seemed as if “she was put on this planet to make the world smile, and now especially me.” I smiled like a 15-year-old on his first date.”
