Former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has described former New England head coach Bill Belichick as “socially awkward” and shared a hilarious story about their trip to New York to appear on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” .
On the latest episode of his “Games with Names” podcast, Edelman opened up about a private jet ride with his legendary former coach when the two were both scheduled to appear on the couch following their Super Bowl win in 2017.
New England had just pulled off its historic 34-28 comeback win in Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons and was on a media tour to celebrate.
“He was fun,” Edelman said. “I mean, you know, Bill, this is the only time you can trust Bill to be smiling and having a good time.” I'm sure he'll be up to date five days later [NFL] Draft.
“He's a funny guy.” We had some great conversations. “We flew to New York together on the jet right after the Super Bowl.”

Fox Sports host Charissa Thompson appeared as a guest on the podcast and asked Edelman if there had been any “weird conversations” during the trip.
“Definitely there’s always awkwardness with Bill,” Edelman said. “He's socially awkward, but in a cool way – like, 'Ahh, that's my socially awkward friend.'”
Edelman even mentioned that Belichick once grabbed his hand during his appearance on The Tonight Show after the WR made a joke about his coach being “a big meditator.”
“I could probably say that right now… I need to get Bill on this damn couch [as a guest on his podcast].'

Edelman went on to say that it would upset him if Belichick appeared on Pat McAfee's show before sitting down for an episode of his podcast.
“I swear if he does McAfee before he does my show, it would hurt me,” he said, then joked, “I didn't take all those team-friendly deals for nothing.”
Edelman spent all 11 seasons of his NFL career under Belichick in New England.
During that time, he recorded 620 receptions, 6,822 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns.
