Julian Sands, the British star of films such as A Room With a View and Arachnophobia, has been identified as the hiker who has been missing in a California mountain range since last week.
Sands, 65, has been missing from the Mount Baldy area since Friday, January 13, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The actor is said to have been somewhere on the popular Baldy Bowl Trail, which climbs 3,900 feet over 4.5 miles to the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Search and rescue teams looking for Sands had to halt the search over the weekend due to avalanche dangers, a department spokesman told CNN, and authorities continued to use drones.
The Independent is aware that Sands’ son Henry has joined the search. With the help of an experienced mountaineer, he follows his father’s route.
California has been hit by a series of violent winter storms in recent weeks, causing flooding and heavy snowfall.
Sands, who lives in North Hollywood and has appeared in more than 150 films and television shows throughout his career, most recently starred in the horror film Ghosts of Monday.
His upcoming releases include a thriller film called Double Soul, starring F. Murray Abraham.

Family spotted by Julian Sands tow truck in search of missing actor
Julian Sands’ family have towed his car from a parking lot where it was discovered during a search for the British actor, who went missing after a hike in Southern California.
The 65-year-old was reported missing in the Baldy Bowl area of the San Gabriel Mountains on Friday night, with local authorities’ search continuing using “helicopters and drones, weather permitting.”
