Julie Bishop ran into some very famous faces at a book launch party in London on Wednesday night.

The former foreign secretary, 66, was greeted by Dr. Gene Sherman’s The Spoken Object is joined by Princess Beatrice, former British Prime Minister David Cameron and A-list actress Isla Fisher.

The glamorous socialite stole the limelight in a silver glitter mini dress by Max Mara, which retails for $1405.

She paired the sequined dress with diamond and crystal ball earrings, and her short blonde hair was styled in his signature style.

Ms Bishop was thrilled to be attending the event and shared a series of photos of herself posing alongside the stars on Instagram.

‘The Princess, the Prime Minister and the Actor. A simply extraordinary evening for the book launch of @sherman_gene “The Spoken Object,” she wrote.

It comes after Ms Bishop divided opinions after she appeared in a striking pink leather dress at a fashion event in London last month to deliver a speech on clothing and feminism.

She turned heads in a statement buttoned mini dress and glittering heels as she took the stage to speak at the Sherman Center for Cultural Ideas Fashion Hub event at London’s Design Museum.

However, some attendees are said to have been “privately angry” that she was named as a speaker at the prestigious event because she once altogether declined to be called a “feminist,” according to Nine’s CBD column.

During the speech, Ms Bishop highlighted her contribution to equality and spoke of how she was looked down on by some colleagues for being more fashionable than other ministers.

But during her time in Parliament, Ms Bishop said: ‘I don’t feel the need to describe myself in that way [as a feminist]’ and said she didn’t find the term meaningful.

Distinguished Australian activist and photographer Juno Gemes reportedly remarked that Ms Bishop was “an odd choice”.

Ms Bishop reportedly told the crowd her Cabinet colleagues disapproved of her fashion sense during her time in Parliament, and revealed she was told to wear “more cardigans” when she was appointed Minister for Aged Care – an anecdote she shared told regularly since leaving politics.

Ms Bishop also spoke about the power of fashion in diplomacy, noting that she had learned to wear color to reflect the place she was dealing with. That meant white in the White House, red for China.

The center promoted the event with more photos of Ms Bishop in another pink dress, this time a stunning two-tone dress with ruffles.

In one of the pictures, Mrs Bishop was standing next to a huge mining dump truck.

“The fascinating intersection of politics and fashion – delighted to be speaking at the Sherman Center for Culture and Ideas in London,” Ms Bishop wrote in an Instagram post after her speech.

She also thanked Bradley Lauten, David Jones’ personal styling suite manager, in a social media post with photos of herself in the dress. Designed by Leo Lin, it retails for $899 at David Jones.

Leo Lin said his designs for “the new era of femininity are full of strength, fearlessness and confidence”.
