The evolution of the domestic labor market continues to be positive, despite high energy prices and the war in Ukraine. At the end of June, 298,402 people were registered as unemployed or in training, down 61,747 from June 2021, the Labor Department said Friday. The unemployment rate fell to 5.5%, the lowest level since 2008. Pre-registrations for short-term work halved to 24,436 in one month.
Unemployment fell below the 300,000 mark in June. In May, 311,500 people were still unemployed. “More people are currently working than ever before,” said Labor Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP). There are no more signs of the corona crisis in the job market. With 3.95 million employees, the employment level is nearly 130,000 more than in June 2019.
