Junior World Championship: Latvia beats Germany

Latvia used its final game of the group stage to convincingly beat Germany 6-2 at the Junior Ice Hockey World Championship in Sweden on Saturday.

The Latvians scored three goals twice without their rivals reacting. Peteris Bulans from the blue line scored the winning goal at the end of the first period. Eriks Mateiko and Rodzers Bukarts had previously flashed the red light and given their team a 2-0 lead.

The party then continued as Sandis Vilmanis scored a brace. Rainers Danzins was the other goalscorer for Latvia. Additionally, the depth of Artis Abols men's training played an important role in this success. In fact, nine different players scored at least one point.

Samuel Schindler and Norwin Panocha responded on the German side. This defeat is the second in three games for the Germans (1-0-0-2), who are last in Group A. Tobias Absteiter's players will try to recover on Sunday against Canada.

The Latvians (1-0-0-3) secured their first tournament victory by defeating Germany. Furthermore, they had not scored a single goal since the start of the competition.
