For the second time in three years, Charlotte Cardin will wear the hat as the Canadian music festival's big favorite at the Juno Awards, thanks to a harvest of six nominations.
The Quebec star, who released his second career album, 99 Nights, in August 2022, is in the running in all the leading categories: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year (Confetti), Songwriter of the Year, Fan's Choice and Pop -Album of the Year.
In the race for the title chosen by fans, which will be subject to a popular vote, she will primarily compete with The Weeknd and Tate McRae.
With her six nominations, Charlotte Cardin is ahead of R&B artist Daniel Caesar and pop/rock singer and new Quebec favorite Ontarion Talk, with five nominations each.
She therefore has a good chance of regaining her deserved title as Queen of the Junos in 2022. Two years ago, Charlotte Cardin took center stage at the Juno Awards held in Toronto. She had won four trophies: Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Pop Album of the Year.
In 2024, as in 2022, she will sing at the televised gala on Sunday evening.
Stréliski “powered by Quebec”
Several Quebec artists will also have the opportunity to win a statuette during the Juno Awards weekend on March 23 and 24 in Halifax.
Alexandra Stréliski received two nominations for her latest release “Néo-romance,” including one in the prestigious “Album of the Year” category.
When she arrived in Rotterdam, the pianist was visibly thrilled as she already has a Juno in her awards collection, namely the Instrumental Album of the Year award, Inscape, which she received in 2020.
“Album of the Year is a big nomination based on sales. In my case, I get the majority of my sales in Quebec. I feel driven from Quebec to Halifax.”
Three for Allison Russell
Allison Russell, who just won her first career Grammy, is a three-time nominee in the categories of songwriter, contemporary roots album and music video of the year, having debuted her second album, The Returner, last summer.
The Juno for French-language album of the year will be between FouKi, Karkwa, Salebarbes, Souldia and Les Cowboys Fringants with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Angèle Dubeau, Elisapie, Dominique Fils-Aimé, Voivod, Rêve and Men I Trust are also among the contingent of Quebec artists who will try to win a Juno.
– The 2024 Juno Awards evening will be hosted by Nelly Furtado and presented live from the Scotiabank Center in Halifax.
