The first pick of the recent National Hockey League (NHL) draft, Juraj Slafkovsky, received three awards at an event hosted by the Slovakian FA on Thursday, including the title of the country’s most valuable player.

The Montreal Canadiens’ up-and-coming star was also named best hockey player under 20 and most deserving forward.
Slafkovsky, 18, could join Habs training next season. Last season he scored seven goals in as many games at the Beijing Olympics. With the team from Turku, in the Finnish elite league, he collected 10 points in 31 games. The striker is not participating in the current Junior Ice Hockey World Championships in Edmonton.
