South Korea’s most popular girl group has shocked fans by revealing their humble diet.
Footage of the quintet NewJeans on the set of their Hype Boy music video has gone viral on social media after the group’s youngest member, 14-year-old Hyein, was caught eating a meager meal during a break in filming.
In a short clip, the teenager can be seen picking a sliced avocado, two halves of a single cherry tomato and some yellow rice.
Two of her bandmates, Danielle Marsh, 18, and Haerin, 16, eat identical meals.
The footage has outraged fans of the group, with many taking to Twitter to demand that the girls eat more.

“How many calories are they getting anyway? You may eat healthy foods like this, but the TINY LITTLE BIT????????’ said one.
“They work so hard, please feed them well!” pleaded another.
Despite the backlash, many Korean fans have defended the group’s food, stating that it was appropriate considering they were shooting a music video at the time and needed to make sure they didn’t get bloated in front of the camera.
“Shouldn’t they eat like this before they perform? When their belly fat is exposed, they get spanked for not self-administering,” one Korean fan wrote, according to Pannkpop blog.
“If they gain weight, you will complain that they gain weight. But when they don’t eat, you complain about it too,” added another.
“So what do you think female idols can eat to keep that skinny body? Do you think they will eat anything and be able to keep that thin body?’ asked one.

Despite their modest diet, NewJeans were recently named the new spokesperson model for fast-food giant McDonald’s in Korea.
The group, which debuted last year, is currently the biggest name in K-pop.
Her self-titled debut and follow-up single each sold over a million copies, and her hit singles Ditto and OMG are so popular they topped the Billboard Hot 100.
Later this year they will perform with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Lana Del Rey at the Lollapalooza in Chicago.
Backlash over the group’s eating habits comes after actress Gwyneth Paltrow was embroiled in a similar controversy.

The Goop founder, 50, sent the internet into a frenzy last week when she appeared in Dr. Will Cole’s podcast, The Art of Being Well, spoke about intermittent fasting, eating bone broth and vegetables, and sitting religiously in her sauna.
Wearing retro aviator goggles and a white cardigan, Paltrow snapped a selfie video to address the uproar, telling fans her various health regimens stemmed from her chronic battles with long COVID.
The lifestyle connoisseur also shared that her choices are “not meant to be advice to others,” explaining, “I eat WAY more than bone broth and veggies.”
“I eat whole foods,” Paltrow claimed. “And I also have a lot of days when I can eat whatever I want and eat french fries and whatever.”
