Vice President Kamala Harris tripped over her words during a speech in Ghana on Monday, serving up another word salad on the world stage.
“There are a number of things that we need to do related to the economy as a whole… and a lot of that work is the work that I’m here on the continent to do,” Harris said during a joint conference with Ghanaian President Nana Akufo addo.
Harris, who The Daily Show compared to HBO’s hapless lead character Veep, was in Africa to strengthen US ties with the region. China has increased its influence on the continent under President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road initiative.

Harris continued, “As you mentioned, we had a wide-ranging discussion this afternoon.”
“We discussed a number of important issues,” Harris said, repeating himself, “including the importance of concepts and priorities like freedom and liberty.”
Harris, who is 58, also reflected on the age of people in Africa.
“The median age on the African continent is 19. Think about what that means in terms of potential,” she said. “Think of the fact that by 2050, one in four people occupying a place on Mother Earth will be on this continent, and what that means.”

Vice President Kamala Harris has often been criticized for awkward moments in public statements.
Harris also drew derision during a speech she gave for Women’s History Month last week, during which she repeated the word “history” several times.
“So during Women’s History Month we celebrate and honor the women who made history throughout history and who saw what could be relieved of what was,” Harris said.
Her speech was widely derided online, and one columnist, Ryan Ledendecker, called the speech “[a]absolute fright.”

On another occasion, Harris spoke at length about Venn diagrams.
“I love Venn diagrams,” Harris said during an event on the climate crisis with Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm in January.
“I do. I love Venn diagrams. So, the three circles – and you can do more! Nobody says a Venn diagram has to be just three circles, right?”
