Harris’ trip will also highlight efforts to support Ukrainians. In talks with the leaders of Poland and Romania, Harris aims to “improve our close coordination in response to Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.”

“They will discuss our continued support for the people of Ukraine through security, economic and humanitarian aid and our determination to impose severe economic consequences on Russia and those involved in the Russian invasion,” the White House said in a statement. “The vice president’s meetings will also focus on how the United States can further support Ukraine’s neighbors as it welcomes and cares for refugees fleeing violence.

Republican congressmen Andy Biggs, Arizona, and Lance Goodon, Texas, questioned the decision to send Harris.

“Kamala Harris has failed to fulfill any of the tasks assigned to her. Why are we sending her to Europe next week,” Biggs tweeted.

Reflecting Biggs’ sentiment, Gooden said Harris would be the “last man” to be sent to Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

Harris faced widespread criticism after trying to explain the crisis in Ukraine during a speech at The Morning Hustle last week.

Asked at one point to explain the crisis overseas in “simple terms” to concerned listeners, Harris replied slowly: “Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia has decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine, so that is basically wrong. “
