Gypsy's decision to kill her mother was the result of a long period of abuse and manipulation. After discovering the truth about her health and realizing that she did not have the illnesses her mother claimed, Gypsy felt trapped and abused. To free herself from this controlled environment, she had her mother killed by her partner. The two were later arrested by police. The killer was sentenced to life in prison, Gypsy Rose was sentenced to ten years in prison. In 2023 she was released on parole after eight years. The case was intensely discussed in public and received attention, among other things, in the series “The Act”.
