Karine Vanasse was excited to return to the world of Before the Crash

Karine Vanasse couldn’t wait to find her acting partners on the set of the series Before the crash. In this second season, his character is plunged into a stormy divorce and the balance of power in the office is in full swing.

His Blue Moon comrade Éric Bruneau gave him a real “gift” by offering to play Évelyne Ste-Marie, an adrenaline-charged financier.

“What I’m most grateful for is that people like Éric Bruneau and Kim Lévesque Lizotte wanted to see me play a character like that. Evelyne is far from the personality I have, she is far from what people perceive of me. I smile more!”, the woman, who has had a brilliant career for 25 years, told QMI Agency.

“There are very entertaining moments to play in both its strengths and its weaknesses. It’s fun to play a character where you know you’re not always there to please everyone. The text offers a lot of color to each actor, so I was really happy to have found Evelyne for it,” said the actress, speaking of a multi-layered role in which complex emotions collide.

Evelyne has to deal with an acrimonious divorce. Her ex François (Émile Proulx-Cloutier) is known to be explosive, so the process is likely to be painful. “She’s trying to find herself, she’s looking to redefine herself, and vulnerability comes into play, but she doesn’t want to show it.”

Evelyne never apologizes, which pleases her interpreter. Now that she is no longer involved in a relationship that consists of dominance and power plays (at home and in the office), will she be able to find contentment in, say, a more conventional couple? It’s impossible to find out more about the connections that bind Evelyne and Marc-André (Éric Bruneau) in this sequel, other than that they form a powerful duo at Olstrom.

In this sequel, “power changes hands. This means that the characters and the dynamics are changed,” said Karine Vanesse, who will also appear in the film Ru and is the host of the reality TV game The Traitors on Noovo. She also directed the English adaptation.

“The responsibility is increasing, the pressure is increasing and Evelyne is using the resources available to her. At a certain point it overwhelms her, so I had to play her more dry and stiff, and it’s so rare for us to play women that we do that. She’s not a bad person, but she’s at her wits’ end. Something rumbles inside Evelyn. Even if you have character and don’t want to explode, it’s like you’re imploding from the inside out.”

Produced by Sovimage, directed by Stéphane Lapointe and written by Éric Bruneau and Kim Lévesque Lizotte, the second season of Avant le crash begins on Monday September 11th at 9 p.m. on ICI Télé.
