The singer Carolina Giraldo Navarro, Karol G (Medellín, 32 years old), began her concert tour in Colombia this Thursday with a performance at the Ibagué women’s prison in the department of Tolima. In a video that went viral on social networks, the Antioquia-born artist, who just won three Grammy Awards for her album “Mañana will be beautiful,” is seen performing fragments of her song “El makinón” dances and sings. In the pictures you can hear the voices of the women who were deprived of their freedom, singing happily: “From the age of 16, about a young girl who breaks the law.” Karol G is silent, looks at them and laughs knowing.
At the beginning of the concert, which lasted just over an hour and was made possible thanks to the joint work of the Con Cora Foundation of Karol G and the Acción Interna Foundation led by the actress Johana Bahamón, the singer La Bichota greeted the inmates and asked them questions what songs they wanted to hear. In a video recorded by one of the female inmates, Karol G can be heard saying: “We’re going to sing for a while, we’re going to have a great time.” “We brought them some gifts for the cells to keep them cooler.” The first Song of the show was Amargura, one of her latest hits with more than 200 million views on YouTube. “Outside I’m laughing, but inside I’m broken,” chanted the security forces, prison staff and prisoners in unison, all gathered in the courtyard of Block 4 of the Picaleña Prison and Correctional Complex in Ibagué.
At the end of the presentation, the Con Cora Foundation announced that this show at the detention center was only the first stop of a tour “that will travel to different parts of Colombia with the aim of bringing joy, entertainment and support to vulnerable populations.” This musical tour will reach hospitals, children’s institutions and women’s prisons and will take place in parallel with the public presentations that the artist will hold this year, starting next Saturday December 1st and Sunday December 2nd at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellín.
The show in Ibagué prison, where Karol G was accompanied by only two musicians, one on the guitar and the other on the percussion box, contrasts with the size of her upcoming concerts. At this point, Medellín Stadium has more than 1,000 people dedicated to the installation and logistics of what is expected to be the best concert of the year. Such is the excitement in Medellín today about La Bichota that the mayor’s office has decided to release a public transport map in memory of Karol G.

Valentina Bueno, Director of the Con Cora Foundation, explained the reasons for these presentations: “We are very proud to embark on this Con Cora tour, inspired by the social mission of our founder Karol G and with the aim of bringing light and hope “Communities are at risk,” he said in a press release. According to the document, the Con Cora Foundation focuses on creating and supporting long-term sustainable projects to empower women. “The foundation’s three lines of action include Artes Con Cora, Becas Con Cora and investments in educational institutions.”
It is not the first and will not be the last time that the singer holds her concerts in women’s prisons. In December 2021 he was in El Pedregal prison in Medellín and in March 2022 he visited El Buen Pastor in Bogotá. Always with the help of the Acción Interna Foundation. On Friday afternoon, the artist’s caravan was seen entering the women’s prison in the town of Jamundí, near Cali, in the Valle del Cauca. This was reported by W Radio via

In the past, Jamundí Prison has been in the public eye because of the poor sanitary conditions suffered by female prisoners. A few months ago, the Ombudsman’s Office issued a warning drawing attention to the serious situation in which more than 1,000 women live. The main problems are water pollution, poor healthcare and poor nutrition. “It is important that priority action be taken to ensure the effective enjoyment of the rights of these women and the LGTBI population deprived of their freedom. “It is clear that a serious violation of the law has occurred,” the Ombudsman’s report said at the time.
The aim of the Con Cora Tour is therefore not only to have a pleasant time at the concerts, but also to help improve the living conditions of the imprisoned women a little. The foundation has already begun visiting various correctional facilities across the country to analyze facilities to identify the specific needs of each location. In the case of Ibagué Prison, the foundation donated water tanks and fans for the cells. This is what Karol G was referring to when she said she “brought them gifts to make them feel cooler.”
That same Friday, before his lecture in Jamundí prison, Karol G made a surprise arrival at the Fundación Valle del Lili hospital in the south of Cali. Several social media videos show the artist, who became world famous for songs like Tusa with Nicki Minaj and TQG with Shakira, entering the pediatric oncology area of the hospital. On the foundation’s official website there are some pictures of La Bichota hugging several sick children. All this happened on the same day that Karol G released her new song Labios mordidos, a collaboration with Kali Uchis, which had more than a million and a half views in a few hours.
