Kate Middleton impresses in her scarlet Catherine Walker coat with a statement bow as she and William arrive at the Horse Guards Parade to welcome the South Korean president and his wife to the UK

Kate Middleton looked chic in a £3,000 red cape by Catherine Walker as she met the President and First Lady of South Korea with her husband Prince William today.

The 41-year-old Princess of Wales wore her hair up in a sleek bun and opted for glamorous makeup including smokey eyes as she headed to the Horse Guards Parade after meeting Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife Kim Keon Hee.

Kate opted to accessorize with Gianvito Rossi shoes and a matching Jane Taylor hat, paying a subtle tribute to the late queen, who was also a fan of color blocking.

To add even more sparkle to the look, Kate wore a pair of Princess Diana’s oval sapphire and diamond earrings.

The Queen wore a similar coat dress during her Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey in 2021. She wore a black version of the same dress to Prince Philip’s funeral.

The King and Queen officially welcomed the South Korean President to the United Kingdom today.

Tonight they will host a glittering state banquet in his honor at Buckingham Palace.

Charles and Camilla welcome the couple for their first state visit since the King’s coronation and the second of his reign.

The Prince and Princess of Wales played a key role in welcoming the President and First Lady to their hotel this morning.

William and Kate traveled with Mr Yoon and Ms Kim to the ceremonial welcome at the Horse Guards Parade in central London, where the King and Queen will be waiting.

An honor guard consisting of Scottish Guardsmen from F Company saluted royally amid traditional pomp and pageantry, and the King and Mr Yoon inspected the troops on the parade ground.

Charles, Camilla, William and Kate and their guests will then travel in a carriage procession through the Mall to the Palace before enjoying a private lunch and viewing the Royal Collection exhibitions in the Picture Gallery.

Later, Mr Yoon will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey and address members of both houses of Parliament in the Royal Gallery at the Palace of Westminster.

In the evening, 170 guests gather for a banquet in the Palace’s opulent ballroom, usually in white tie and tiara.

The King and Queen are expected to be joined by William, Kate and other members of the royal family, while Charles and Mr Yoon will give speeches.

Foreign ministers are also usually invited, meaning the newly appointed Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton is likely to dine at the royal residence again, recalling the days when he was prime minister.

Mr Yoon, 62, is a known karaoke fan and sang a verse of one of his favorite songs, American Pie, at a White House dinner in April at President Joe Biden’s request during a state visit to the US.

Mr Yoon and Ms Kim arrived inconspicuously at Stansted Airport on Monday.

Ahead of his trip, Mr Yoon said the world was facing a “polycrisis” of multiple conflicts and threats to humanity.

He told the Daily Telegraph that the wars in Ukraine and Israel, as well as rising tensions with Russia, North Korea and the South China Sea, had forced him to seek “very close security cooperation” with the West.

He reached a groundbreaking agreement with the United States earlier this year to counter the nuclear threat from North Korea.

Mr Yoon previously warned other world leaders about possible cooperation between North Korea and Russia following North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The king and South Korean president met last year at a reception for heads of state and official foreign guests at the palace on the eve of the late queen’s funeral.

Mr Yoon’s opponents accused him of behaving disrespectfully during his trip to London after he missed the opportunity to see the late queen’s coffin laid out there – which he blamed on heavy traffic.

He was also caught swearing after a conversation with Mr Biden at the UN General Assembly the following week, with the footage going viral in his home country.

The King visited South Korea in November 1992.

As Prince of Wales, he led the tour alongside his then-wife Diana, Princess of Wales, but the couple were dubbed “The Glums” because they were unwell, and a month later it was announced that Charles and Diana would separate.

On Wednesday, Mr Yoon will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Downing Street and also meet Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer.

The state visit follows South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s first visit of the King’s reign last autumn.
