“Since it's been such a contemplative year, I put pen to paper, which was the most wonderful experience… so maybe…” [book emoji] Next year???' he wrote.

James also spoke about the birth of Inigo, a son he shares with Alisee Thevenet, in October and shared a picture of him with two of the couple's dogs.

But there was also an air of sadness over the holidays following the death of James' beloved spaniel Ella in January this year.

“The year began with the unbearable sadness of the loss of Ella,” James wrote. “Even though I knew her time would come, it took me a while to come to terms with the fact that she was no longer by my side.

“I know that many of you who have also lost a dog will understand the grief that follows you.”

He continued that he and Alizee would have the “absolute joy” of welcoming Inigo later in 2023.

He added: “Inigo has already found his place in the pack and giggles every time one of the dogs comes by to snuggle up next to us.”

As well as sharing his family news, James also discussed his new Waitrose dog food project in memory of his late Ella.

He wrote: “A month later I launched a new James & Ella range at Waitrose – and one of the final photos of me and Ella now appears on shelves in stores across the country.”

“It was a very proud moment bringing Inigo to our local store to see the product on the shelves for the first time.”

Concluding his New Year's post, James added: “As I move into 2024, I promise to remain focused on my mission… to enable all dogs to live as happy and healthy a life as they have given me.”

'Happy New Year to all of you. With love, James, Alizee, Inigo, Zulu, Mabel, Inka, Luna, Nala and Isla.'

This came after James shared a celebratory post about how bittersweet his celebrations were this year following Ella's death.

He shared a snap of his Christmas tree with a picture of Ella at the top and wrote: “The angel on our tree is watching over us.”

“My first Christmas in 16 years without Ella, but our first with Inigo.” Merry Christmas from my family to yours.'

He has previously revealed how Ella stopped him from “thinking about suicide” during his battle with depression and that “during difficult times” he would spend an entire day not speaking to anyone but her.

But towards the end of 2023, the Princess of Wales' brother experienced great joy with the birth of his son Inigo.

James announced the birth of his son on Instagram in late October, sharing a photo of Inigo's little hand “holding” a badge with the emblem of his late beloved dog Ella, as well as another photo of the little baby in his crib, while James' other Dogs were watching About him, the new father praised the NHS for the care it provided to Alizee and the newborn at Basingstoke Hospital, where he was born.

He also revealed that he had already taught little Inigo about Ella.

Although he didn't reveal Inigo's exact birthday, he said the little one has only been in his life for “only a few weeks.”

In a heartfelt announcement on Instagram, James wrote: He's only been in our lives for a few weeks but meeting our beautiful baby boy has been the most special moment of my life.

“No matter how prepared I thought I was… I was not prepared for the overwhelming emotion of meeting Inigo for the first time and the love for my beloved Alizée when we became three.

“We were settling into our new life as parents and I told him all about Ella and how he wouldn’t be here today without her and that we miss her very much.”

“The dogs did a fantastic job of welcoming their little brother into the pack (although Inka needs to know that the teddy bears aren't everything to her…)

“We would like to thank the wonderful team at Basingstoke Hospital, from the very first scan to the first time the three of us left the front door. We couldn’t have felt better supported and looked after, so thank you NHS.”
