In Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir, Spare, out Tuesday, the Duke of Sussex recalls an “awkward moment” between his wife Meghan Markle and sister-in-law Kate Middleton.
The awkward encounter reportedly took place ahead of the Sussexes and Waleses’ appearance at the Royal Foundation Forum in 2018, when Harry’s new wife asked to borrow Kate’s lip gloss when she forgot hers – an “American thing”, as the Duke of Sussex put it called.
“Kate went into her purse in surprise and reluctantly pulled out a small tube,” Harry wrote. “Meg pressed something on her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate made a face.”
Perhaps Middleton passed Markle her tube of Clarins Natural Lip Perfector ($28), a favorite product she was spotted wearing at Wimbledon in 2019.

The Duke went on to say that the four “should have laughed” at the moment, but the press “sensed” it was “something bigger”.
He added that Kate must have been “nervous” as now she “would be compared to Meg and forced to compete with her”.
