While discussions about aesthetic pressure, beauty claims and fat phobia are increasingly on the agenda in the press and social networks today, Kate Winslet mostly had to deal with harsh criticism of her weight between the 1980s and 1990s.
The 47yearold star addressed the issue in an interview with the Sunday Times. She explained that while she was studying acting, she was told by others that because of her weight she “would only play fat girls,” and she had to accept that. Then, about 30 years ago, when she started working in television and film, she felt a constant pressure to stay skinny.

“But the film industry is really changing,” said the ‘Titanic’ and ‘Mare of Easttown’ actress. When I was younger, my agent would get calls asking, ‘What’s her weight?’ I’m not joking. So it’s reassuring that that’s started to change.”

In an interview with The Guardian in 2021, Winslet recalled being the target of a joke by comedian Joan Rivers at the time of the release of ‘Titanic’, who said: “If she shed a few pounds, Leo [DiCaprio] would have fit in the door that served as a lifeboat [ao final do filme]🇧🇷
