Kathleen Turner remembers her TV son Matthew Perry after his tragic death: “He had a good sense of humor and a good heart”

Tributes continue to pour in for “Friends” star Matthew Perry just a day after his tragic death, with his TV “father” Kathleen Turner giving the opening speech.

Turner, 69, played Helena Handbasket, a transgender character often referred to as the “father” of Perry’s beloved character Chandler Bing.

The actress revealed in a statement to People that she was “very sad for Matthew,” adding that she hasn’t seen him for “at least 10 years.”

‘I liked him. “He had a good sense of humor and a good heart,” Turner told the outlet, adding that he “liked people.”

She added that liking people is “terribly important to me, especially for an actor,” and also commented on when he saw one of her Broadway shows.

“He came to see one of my Broadway shows and came backstage. When he saw me he called out “Hey Dad” and everyone thought that was pretty cool. “I think it was for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” she added.

“It’s extremely sad considering how young.” [he was] And it’s a shame he couldn’t get more control,” she said, referring to his battle with addiction.

“I can’t imagine that the pressure these boys lived under is a global phenomenon.” “It must have been overwhelming,” she said.

Turner only appeared in three episodes as Helena Handbasket in 2001, although she revealed that she is still known for the role.

“I’m still constantly recognized as Chandler’s father by a certain age group,” she revealed in the interview.

“I met someone last night and she said, ‘Aren’t you a movie star?’ I said, ‘Yeah, but before your time,'” Turner began.

“And she said, ‘How do I know you?’ and I said, ‘Chandler’s dad.’ She said, ‘Oh my God!'” Turner added.

She also talked about being part of the episode where Chandler married Courteney Cox’s Monica.
