In an interview with Collider published on Monday, producer Basil Iwanyk revealed that the star asked for his character to be killed off at the end of the film in 2023.

“After the second, third and fourth films, making these films is so tiring and destroys Keanu physically and emotionally,” Basil Iwanyk told the outlet. In the end he always says, “I can’t do that again,” and we agree with him. This guy is nothing more than an empty shell as he dives headfirst into the adventure. He said, “I definitely want to be killed at the end of this movie.” »

However, the producers resisted his wishes and eventually reached a compromise. “We said to ourselves, ‘You know, we’ll leave a little 10% opening,'” he added.

It is heavily implied that John Wick dies at the end of Chapter 4 after being shot on the steps of the Sacred Heart in Paris during a duel with Caine’s character, played by Donnie Yen, and the Marquis, played by Bill Skarsgård. However, director Chad Stahelski revealed to Empire magazine earlier this year that they had filmed a more concrete ending that confirmed John Wick was still alive.

“We had a different ending,” Stahelski said. You saw John Wick at the end of the movie. So it was very clear that he was still alive. The viewers we tested absolutely loved the ambiguous ending. »

And to add to the uncertainty, Basil Iwanyk told Collider that he, Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski are “coming together to find the story” of another potential chapter in the film series.
