Singer Kelly Clarkson recently opened up about her significant weight loss and difficult divorce, and is now opening up about a strict rule she set as a mother.

Clarkson has been honest in the past about not wanting her children to venture into the music industry and says she is adamant that her children will not explore the social media space as long as they live with her.

“This can be very hard on children in general, but especially on children whose parents are in the public eye,” Clarkson told People magazine. “That’s why I informed them that they can never do that under my roof [it].”

She shares daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington Alexander, 7, with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, from whom she separated in 2020. Their divorce was contentious and was not finalized until 2022.

“My daughter was like, 'What if Dad lets me?' I say, “Well, you’re there four days a month. Enjoy it. “And right now he’s not letting it happen,” Clarkson said of Blackstock. “I'll listen when they're older, but until they have a solid argument, it's a no.”

Although he disagreed on social media, Clarkson admitted that co-parenting isn't a walk in the park. “There are so many emotions and traumas involved,” she explained, especially in the beginning.

“It's hard enough when you're married and have two different backgrounds and ways of disciplining and educating. Doing that in different households can be difficult,” she explained, adding that things have improved since then.

The “Breakaway” singer says she “can be hard on herself” but makes it clear she's not a “helicopter” parent.

“I think I'm doing a pretty good job… I like that they're independent, but I keep my schedule strict and make sure I'm there as often as possible. There is no such thing as a perfect parent; I’m definitely messing up.” I’m going to raise my kids somehow! But I’m doing my best.”
