Kelly Clarkson admitted she never wanted to walk down the aisle despite saying “yes” to Brandon Blackstock.

“NO. I never wanted to get married the first time,” she said in an interview with People published on Wednesday.

“[Brandon] He had children and a religious background, and I think that was important to him. But I’ve never been that person.”

The “Since You've Been Gone” singer, who filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020, added that she is not one of those people pushing for marriage after experiencing several broken relationships throughout her life have.

“Because I've been through a few divorces in my family, I just don't want to give it any weight. It can happen; This doesn’t have to happen,” she continued.

“For my kids, I definitely wouldn’t think about it until they were no longer home with me.”

Clarkson, 41, and Blackstock, 47, were married for almost seven years before calling it quits.

The former couple's split resulted in the Grammy winner reportedly gaining sole custody of her daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 7 – with Blackstock hosting the children one weekend a month.

Brandon also has daughters Savannah Blackstock (21) and Seth Blackstock (17) with his ex-wife Melissa Ashworth.

Meanwhile, Clarkson isn't interested in finding her soulmate any time soon.

“Dating sucks. It’s so awkward,” she said. “I was single until I was about 30 and forgot how good I was at it.”

But if the “Because Of You” singer has learned anything from her past relationships, it's learning what she wants in a potential partner.

“I told a friend [that my future partner] “Must be someone who brings their own life to the table without needing anything from me,” she added.

“It's much more romantic to say, 'I want you, but I don't need anything.' I’m feeling really good at the moment, having a good time.”

This isn't the first time Clarkson has spoken openly about embracing the single life.

In fact, the “Stronger” hitmaker revealed in September that she didn't have a boyfriend and was “not looking.”

“I have two kids, two dogs, three rabbits, a hamster, multiple jobs – there's a lot going on,” she said on Instagram Live. “And you know, you think you're going to spend the rest of your life with someone, and you don't. It’s hard to start over again.”

During a segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show in December 2021, she also joked that she would be “single forever.”
