Kelly Ripa, 53, speaks openly about menopause and celebrates the advantage: “I can wear white pants without being afraid!”

When Kelly Ripa hit menopause at age 50 in 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she discovered an unexpected benefit — wearing white.

“I love not getting my period.” There I said it. I don’t mind at all. “I think that’s one of the biggest benefits of menopause,” the 53-year-old mother of three admitted on her podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera” on Tuesday.

“And you can wear white pants and not be afraid!”

The producer and host of LIVE with Kelly and Mark enthusiastically described her first season of Memorial Day to Labor Day post-menopause as “the summer of white pants because I never had to worry about wearing white pants!”

A decade ago, “a famous person” gave Ripa the phone number of hormone specialist Dr. Erika Schwartz, “when I could barely sit and thought I didn’t know what was wrong with me.”

“She said, ‘You’re probably perimenopausal.’ And I said, ‘No! I get my period all the time!” And she was like, “Yeah, that’s perimenopause. That’s part of it,” Kelly recalled.

According to WebMD, symptoms of perimenopause can include irregular periods, hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, breast tenderness, difficulty concentrating, and fatigue.

Schwartz warned women that if you don’t “use” them (through sex or masturbation), you can “lose” them and worsen menopausal symptoms such as vaginal dryness and low libido.

“We have fun together. “We really enjoy our sex life together,” the six-time Daytime Emmy winner gushed about her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos.

“We just enjoy each other’s company, let’s put it that way.” And I think when we have the kids out of the house for the most part – sometimes they sneak in when we least expect it – but for the most part there is us the fact that the children are out of the house, a certain freedom that we haven’t experienced in a really long time.

“We kind of feel like we’re together again, and that’s very exciting. So I think we’re keeping it that spicy.”

Ripa and the 52-year-old Spaniard, who met as movie lovers Hayley and Mateo on the ABC soap opera “All My Children,” eloped at the Chapel of the Bells in Las Vegas in 1996 after just a year of dating.

Kelly and Mark’s 26-year-old son Michael graduated from NYU in 2022, their 22-year-old daughter Lola graduated from NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music on May 17, and their 20-year-old son Joaquin is a wrestler at the University of Michigan.

The Generation Gap producer and host marvels at how friends who are “much older” than her “routinely tell me they still get their periods” because menopause is “too scary for them.”

“Because in today’s world there is still a lot of the same from yesterday and time has left its mark on society and culture. And we believe that when we age past menopause, we are no longer useful,” Schwartz replied.

“Once you are no longer fertile, you are no longer useful.” I think you are very useful. Then you have the information, the experience. “You have so much to offer that I think every woman should feel amazing.”
