Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos discuss their nearly 27-year marriage on their new podcast, Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa.
The podcast debuts Wednesday with E! debuted a preview in which Ripa, 52, told Consuelos, 51, that her husband was “insanely jealous” when she started her message.
The couple, who walked the Oscars red carpet earlier this month, first met in 1995 when Consuelos was cast in All My Children and they tied the knot in May 1996.
“My biggest complaint about you throughout our marriage, and that’s not new because it’s definitely changed and I don’t know if you’ve changed or I’ve changed or if it was a combination of changes but you were used to be insanely jealous and that was hard to swallow,” Ripa began.
“It’s very hard to be married to someone who’s jealous, and you were jealous of things that weren’t … You had an idea of a scenario,” she said, setting the “best example” from the start of their marriage .
Opening up: Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos open up about their nearly 27-year marriage on their new podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa
Beginnings: The couple, who walked the Oscars red carpet earlier this month, first met in 1995 when Consuelos joined the cast of All My Children (seen above in July 1996) and they broke through in May 1996
“It was our first week of marriage because we took our honeymoon later. You worked and I visited you in Boston,” Ripa recalls.
“We went to this Italian restaurant and the waiter was like a very sweet old man, he’s definitely in his 70’s if not his 80’s. He leaned forward and said, ‘And for the Principessa?’”
Consuelos admitted he was “excited” at the moment, with Ripa adding: “I thought it was so cute that this little old man called me Princess and I looked at him and gave him my order with a very smiling smile.
“And he went away, and you started a terrible fight,” she said when Conseulos admitted that he remembered.
‘I remember it. Look at the age of 25, I was pretty crazy. But that jealousy has definitely haunted me for a while, but I’m not jealous anymore,” he added.
Ripa tells her husband that she’s “so grateful you’re not,” adding that she doesn’t “pray for things or people … I would just say, ‘Please let him lose that personality flaw.”
Consuelos admitted it wasn’t even a “personality flaw” but a “character flaw”.
‘It’s ugly. As ugly as it feels for the person who must be on the receiving end, it’s such an ugly feeling on the inside,” he admitted.
Honeymoon: “It was our first week of marriage because we took our honeymoon later. You worked and I visited you in Boston,” Ripa recalls
Princess: “We went to this Italian restaurant and the waiter was like a very sweet old man, he’s definitely in his 70’s if not 80’s. He bent down and said: ‘And for the Principessa?’
Mark recalls: “I remember that. Look at the age of 25, I was pretty crazy. But that jealousy has definitely haunted me for a while, but I’m not jealous anymore,” he added
“If that’s any consolation, you know you’re crazy. The jealous person knows it’s wrong and ugly, but it’s not their fault,” the actor added.
When Ripa asked, “What has changed?” To help him let go of his jealousy, Consuelos admitted he couldn’t pinpoint it.
‘I don’t know. I think I wanted to work something on myself and that was one of the most important things I had to work on because it got in my way,” Consuelos said.
The new podcast, produced by SiriusXM and Milojo Productions, will premiere Wednesday, March 22nd on Stitcher, the SXM app or wherever podcasts are available.
Other guests this season include Anderson Cooper, Carol Burnett, Edie Falco, Holly Robinson Peete, Joel McHale, Matthew McConaughey, Nia Long and more.
Shortly thereafter, news follows that Ripa’s longtime Live With Kelly & Ryan co-host Ryan Seacrest is leaving the show.
Consuelos will replace him, with their new episodes starting April 17 together.
‘I’m very excited. It is a honor. It’s such an iconic show. That seat next to my wife is such a treasured seat. I think she’s the best in the business, so I’m really excited,” said Consuelos.
Consolation: “If that’s any consolation, you know you’re crazy. The jealous person knows it’s wrong and ugly, but it’s not their fault,” the actor added
Changed: Ripa asked “What has changed?” This helped him let go of his jealousy, Consuelos admitted he couldn’t exactly put it
