The famous influencer, who has almost 150 million followers on TikTok, was born in Senegal and has lived in Italy since he was a child.
Khaby Lame, the most followed influencer on TikTok, has officially received Italian citizenship, La Repubblica and The Guardian report. The 22-year-old, who started working for the social network after losing his job at the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, was “very proud”, the two media reports.
Khaby Lame was born in Senegal and has lived in Italy since he was one year old. The one who has “always felt Italian” was informed of his new citizenship in early June.
He was sworn in on Wednesday. “I swear to be faithful to the Republic and to respect the Constitution and the laws of the State,” he declared during a ceremony organized in the municipality of Chivasso, near Turin, where he grew up.
An international success
Registered on Tiktok in 2020, he had worldwide success in early 2021 thanks to his very short, silent and humorous videos in which he parodies sequences that have gone viral on social networks.
“I have loved entertaining people and making them laugh since I was little. I am very grateful to TikTok for providing me with this global platform that allows me to share my passion with the rest of the world to share,” he said in a press release last year, after over 100 million subscribers.
His jaded expression and the simplicity of his gestures have made him one of the most popular personalities on the platform, which has more than a billion users.
