Family, friends and former co-stars of Adan Canto took to social media on Tuesday to remember the actor following news that the star of “The Cleaning Lady and Designated Survivor” died of cancer at the age of 42 .
“Forever my darling Adan, see you soon,” Stephanie Canto, Adan’s wife, wrote on Instagram. She paired the message with a passage from Matthew 6:19-21 and a photo of the couple together.
Canto died of appendix cancer on Tuesday, his rep told . His diagnosis has not been made public.
“Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who saw it were forever changed,” a statement said. “Many will miss him very much.”
He and his wife leave behind two children, Roman Alder (3) and Eve Josephine (1).
Canto was known to many as Aaron Shore in the Netflix series Designated Survivor, as White House chief of staff and later vice president to Kiefer Sutherland's Tom Kirkman. Sutherland expressed his condolences and sadness over Canto's death via Instagram on Tuesday.

“He was such a wonderful spirit,” Sutherland wrote of his co-star. “As an actor, his desire to do well, be great and then do better was truly impressive and we will miss him greatly.”
Sutherland continued: “I am also heartbroken for his wife Steph and his two young children. Adan, may you rest in peace.”
Halle Berry, who directed and starred with Canto in 2020's “Bruised,” wrote on Instagram that she's “still at a loss for words… but my dear, sweet friend Adan just got his wings.” Forever, forever in my heart.”
Most recently, Canto played Arman Morales on the Fox series “The Cleaning Lady” for two seasons. The series is currently filming its third season, but Canto was not involved in the upcoming season due to health reasons.
“He will always be our Arman,” says Fox TV posted on social media on Tuesday. A statement from Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment called his death an “incredible loss,” and confirmed that Fox will honor Canto with a title card when the series returns on March 5.
Sean Lew, Canto's The Cleaning Lady co-star, wrote on Instagram Stories that he was “honored” to be the actor's castmate, adding that he was “one of the coolest people” and that Team will “continue the show in your honor.” .”
Shiva Negar, also part of the cast of the series, also posted a series of photos of her character alongside Cantos and wrote, “I can't, I just can't.”
In addition to his roles in “Designated Survivor” and “The Cleaning Lady,” Canto starred as real-life politician Rodrigo Lara Bonia in the first season of the Netflix drug cartel series “Narcos,” and also appeared in ABC’s “Blood and Oil” and “The Following” from Fox.
In film, he has had roles in Agent Game, Bruised and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Canto was born in Mexico and grew up in Texas. He was also a singer, guitarist and filmmaker.
