Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Solskyj fears “big losses” in this year’s wheat harvest in his country because of the Russian war of aggression.
“The situation with corn is a little better,” said the head of the department, according to an official translation, today in Stuttgart, Germany, at the beginning of the meeting with his counterparts from the industrialized countries of the G-7. “The situation is definitely not easy.”
“We cannot solve the task alone”
Your country also needs support in transporting grain. “We cannot solve the task alone.” Traditionally, Ukraine is a major wheat exporter. Because of the war, grain markets around the world are strained and prices are rising.
German Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir, host of the meeting, said he had accepted an invitation from Solskyj to Ukraine. Details are open. Talks are about, among other things, exploring Ukrainian grain transport routes – he named the land route, the railway and the Danube.
Odessa, as Ukraine’s last free port, is unlikely to fall. “We will not leave them alone,” he said, referring to Ukraine and its citizens.
Germany currently chairs the G-7 round. In addition to Germany, the group includes the USA, Canada, France, Great Britain, Italy and Japan.
