Kiev suffers drone 'swarm attack', sixth of its kind this month SEE

The capital of UkraineKiev, was the target of a mass attack by Russia with drones this Friday, 22, which authorities described as a “swarm”. It was the sixth such attack against the city this month, leaving two people injured and residential buildings destroyed and damaged.

The country's air force said its defenses shot down 24 of 28 attack drones that were part of a larger swarm that targeted parts of central, southern and western Ukraine.

Damaged houses and apartments

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on his channel on the news app Telegram that a drone hit an apartment block in the Solomyanskyi district near the city center and caused a fire on the upper floors that was quickly brought under control. The damaged building was just a few meters from a maternity hospital.

Ukrainian emergency services also said that several apartments on the 24th, 25th and 26th floors of the building were damaged. Two people were injured and had to be taken to hospital.

Klitschko also said that fragments of the downed drones set fire to a house under construction in the Darnytskyi district on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, which flows through the city.

Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's military administration, also said fragments from a downed drone hit another residential building in a third area south of the city center. He published photos showing broken windows and extensive damage to homes.

Infrastructure

Without providing further details, Ukraine's Southern Command said an “infrastructure facility” had been hit in the Mykolaiv region and fragments from a downed drone had damaged a grain warehouse in the Odessa region. There were no reported injuries in these areas and fires caused by weapons impact were extinguished.
