Killed and wounded in Kabul bomb attack

It’s the second bomb blast in two days. At least eight people died.

According to doctors and eyewitnesses, at least eight people died and another 22 were injured in another bomb blast in the Afghan capital, Kabul. The explosive device detonated on Saturday in a busy shopping street in the western part of the city, where members of the Shi’ite Muslim minority tend to frequent. The terrorist militia “Islamic State” IS claimed responsibility for the attack.

IS had previously described itself as the perpetrator of an attack on a Shiite residential area in Kabul, in which several people died on Friday.

In Afghanistan, Shias are in the minority. They are preparing for Ashura Day, which commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, grandson of Prophet Muhammad. IS has been carrying out attacks in Afghanistan since 2015 and is also fighting the Taliban, who are also Sunni.
