North Korean dictator Kim Jongun has ordered his military, weapons industry and nuclear weapons industry to accelerate war preparations to counter what he called unprecedented confrontational moves by the US, he told state press on Wednesday (27).
Kim spoke at a key ruling party meeting about policy directions for the new year and also said Pyongyang would expand strategic cooperation with “independent antiimperialist” countries, KCNA news agency reported.
“Kim has given militant tasks to the people's army and weapons industry, nuclear weapons and civil defense sectors to further accelerate war preparations,” he told KCNA.
The speech came a week after the dictator declared that he would not hesitate to launch a nuclear attack using nuclear weapons if “provoked.”
The dictator claims that “the military situation” on the Korean peninsula has become “extreme” due to the “unprecedented” clashes in Washington.
South Korea, Japan and the United States have stepped up military cooperation in light of the North's wave of weapons tests this year and activated a system to share realtime information about North Korean missile launches.
Weeks ago, a US nuclear submarine arrived in the South Korean port of Busan, and Washington sent longrange bombers to maneuvers with Seoul and Tokyo.
For Pyongyang, sending strategic weapons such as B52 bombers to military exercises in the region are “deliberately provocative actions by the United States toward nuclear war.”
This year, the North launched a reconnaissance satellite, enshrined its status as a nuclear power in its constitution and tested its most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile.
