Several Quebecers, including writer Kim Thúy and former health minister Réjean Hébert, are among recent appointments to the Order of Canada, considered the country's highest honor.
A total of 78 people at various levels will receive this award, including three companions, 15 officers, one honorary officer and 59 members, the governor general's office said Thursday morning.
Among the promotions within the Order we find the former senator and deputy Serge Joyal for his services as a politician but also as a patron in the fields of art and culture.
Poet and storyteller Joséphine Bacon has been honored with the title of Officer for her contributions to Indigenous literature and culture in Canada. Filmmaker Peter Robb Pearson and former Health and Social Affairs Minister Réjean Hébert also received this award.
Kim Thúy was named a member of the Order for “amplifying the voices and experiences of migrants and refugees as an acclaimed novelist in the Canadian literary community.”
She is not the only Quebecer in this category, as we also find businessman Lino A. Saputo, activist Martine Monique Roy, bassist Joel Andrew Quarrington, neurologist Raquel Zeggara del Carpio-O' Donovan and professor Osama El-Sayed Moselhi .
The nominees would be invited to an investiture ceremony to be held at a later date, it was clarified.
