King Albert II, the continent’s oldest ruler or former ruler, was exceptionally scheduled to attend the National Day celebrations. Since his abdication in 2013 in favor of his eldest son, Albert and Paola had made the decision not to take part in the public demonstrations marking the national holiday, July 21st. This year King Philippe is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his reign and the former rulers had chosen to be present at the celebrations. “Your presence will be reassessed as the date approaches,” we add on the palace’s website, reports RTL-Info.
