King Charles III held his first audiences as British sovereign.

The monarch, accompanied by Queen Consort Camilla, held audiences with several British politicians and faith leaders on their first royal duties following the King’s accession to the throne after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The royal couple held audiences with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Prime Minister Liz Truss and members of the Cabinet and opposition party leaders in the 1844 Room at Buckingham Palace yesterday afternoon. For the meetings, the monarch wore a classic navy blue suit with subtle pinstripes, while Queen Camilla wore a black dress and tights.

The couple will travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, tomorrow morning, where members of the Royal Family will take part in a procession of Queen Elizabeth’s coffin from Holyroodhouse Palace to St Giles’ Cathedral. The royals will also attend a service at the cathedral, after which the coffin will rest for the Scottish public to pay their respects.

Yesterday, during his official proclamation, the new sovereign addressed the roles of his title.

“I am deeply aware of this great legacy and the duties and heavy responsibilities of sovereignty that have now passed to me. In assuming this responsibility, I will endeavor to follow the inspiring example given to me in maintaining constitutional government, and to strive for the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these islands and the Commonwealth realms and – territories around the world,” he said.
