In a post on Instagram a few weeks ago, the woman spoke of the happiness that her daughter’s arrival had brought her.
Her name was Kira, the three-month-old girl who was killed on Saturday during the Russian missile attack on the city of Odessa that left eight dead. Valeria Hlodan was instead the name of the mother who also died under the bombs. To tell us her story, Myroslava Petsa, a BBC reporter, posted two pictures shared by Valeria’s husband and Kira’s father Yuri. My love – wrote Yuri on social media – your kingdom of heaven, stay in our hearts.
The photo was also shared on the official account of the Ukrainian parliament on Twitter: A young mother with her three-month-old daughter – according to the tweet – whose life was ended by Russia when a rocket hit an apartment building in Odessa. Rest in peace our angels.

In an Instagram post that a Ukrainian journalist from the Kyiv Independent relaunched 11 weeks ago – before the start of the war – the woman spoke of a new level of happiness that the arrival of her daughter had brought her. It was the best 40 weeks of my life. Our baby is one month old – she wrote a photo of her pregnancy underneath – her father brought her the first flowers.
“It was the best 40 weeks ever. Our girl is now 1 month old. Daddy gave her her first flowers. (posted 11 weeks ago)
Today both the woman who posted it and the baby she is writing about were killed by a Russian missile in Odessa. pic.twitter.com/Ujej7K94Ci
