Knicks Rumors: Mitchell, L. Rose, Brunson, Durant, Irving

Even if the jazz decide to act Donovan Mitchellthe curtsy might not be the first to acquire him, writes SNY.tv’s Ian Begley. A native of New York, Mitchell has been rumored to be the Knicks’ primary target for some time. The Jazz have said they plan to keep Mitchell and revamp the roster around him, but sources tell Begley several teams believe he would be available at the right price.

However, there is no guarantee that the New York front office will honor this price. Sources close to the Knicks told Begley before the draft that the team was reluctant to part with the mix of players and draft picks it would take to land a talent like Mitchell for fear that the remaining squad would be too thin to compete. Since then, New York has reached an agreement with Free Agent Guard Jalen Brunsonbut Begley doesn’t think this will change the team’s philosophy toward a Mitchell trade.

There’s more from New York:

  • The Knicks may have signed their top goal this year by luring Brunson away from the Mavericks, but it’s still not clear that Brunson is team president Leon Rose was the best choice to lead the organization, according to Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News. pink and William Wesley were highly praised when they took over the Knicks for their connections with the league’s top players. The results were uninspiring, according to Bondy, as the team hasn’t landed a true star and has committed nearly $500 million in guaranteed money to an average roster over the past two summers.
  • Brunson’s father, Knicks assistant coach Rick BrunsonHe’s been telling friends for months that Jalen wanted to come to New York, but there were concerns the team could create enough canopy space to make a competitive bid. tweets Marc Berman of the New York Post. The Brunson family has a strong connection with Rose, but Jalen was unwilling to sign for less than his market value.
  • The Knicks may have dodged a bullet Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving decided to sign with Brooklyn three years ago, suggests Steve Popper of Newsday. The Knicks went after the two stars, but Popper thinks they would have ended up in the same mess nets experience now.
