Alan, a graduating student from the Hotel College in Bazeilles in the Ardennes, was the one who disarmed the Dublin attacker who attacked several people with a knife on Thursday November 23rd. He knocked out the attacker in front of a school, slightly injuring his hand and face. He has been doing an internship in a restaurant in Dublin since October.
A total of five people were injured in the attack, which Irish police described as a “serious accident”. The injured include a man, a woman and three small children.
According to a witness report to RTE Media, the attacker was disarmed by two people, including Alan. “Another man took the knife and put it aside” so it could be turned over to authorities, said passerby Siobhan Kearney. Emmanuel Macron and Education Minister Gabriel Attal congratulated the young Frenchman by telephone.
Scenes of chaos
Clashes broke out in the city just hours after the attack, with the unrest quickly blamed on the far right. They stormed a neighborhood with a large immigrant population as rumors swirled about the potential attacker’s origins.
The Irish Prime Minister strongly condemned these riots. “These people claim to be defending Irish nationals,” “they are endangering” the “most innocent and vulnerable,” he told the press. “They are a disgrace to Dublin, a disgrace to Ireland, a disgrace to their families and themselves.”
On Thursday, police arrested 34 people on the sidelines of these riots. The head of government vowed to punish “those involved” in tonight’s clashes.
